Healthy Vending at WSU in the News!

We did it! We made the newspaper! The following is the article posted on Carrie Rengers’ Have You Heard? blog on the Wichita Eagle website.

HEALTHY VENDING AT WICHITA STATE UNIVERSITY

WICHITA, KS, NOVEMBER 5, 2010: Studying for a college exam can be hard these days. There is a simple way to help students study and perform better on exams: healthy snacks. The Healthy Vending for WSU Committee was formed by a group of WSU students and they are gaining support from fellow students and faculty members to add these machines on campus.

In their proposal, the current snack machines will stay where they are. Five new vending machines offering healthy snack options will be available at convenient locations across the main campus. The machines would be leased from the leading healthy snack machine company in the USA offering incentives for leasing, including tax breaks and keeping all profits. The existing vending contract will cover all maintenance and keep the snack machines stocked at all times at no additional cost. Electricity usage will be minimal as the machines are more energy efficient than the existing machines.

“It’s foolproof, really. With little initial expense, the potential for profit for WSU’s pocket is outstanding.” says Sarah Aaron, Healthy Vending for WSU Committee member.

The group has created a blog at www.WSUhealthyvending.blogspot.com for students and the public alike to follow along on their progress in bringing healthy vending options to WSU’s main campus.

To become a member of the committee or provide assistance in achieving this goal, contact the Healthy Vending for WSU Committee at

This article should bring much needed publicity to add these healthy vending machines to our campus. Thank you Carrie Rengers for publishing this on your website; we appreciate the support the community has shown.

Our next step is to organize a meeting with WSU Board Members, Vice President of Finance, students and members of the community.

Keep checking back for more information and keep eating healthy snacks!
